In my fifteen years as a fantasy football player, I have come up with a fantasy football cheatsheet draft strategy that I find has proven highly successful. First of all I make my own cheat sheets, that’s a given. Fantasy magazine cheat sheets are always based on old data. Those things are written right after the draft and they’re intended to be on the shelves through August. With all the player movement, training camps, and preseason games, the information gleaned from a fantasy magazine is bound to be way too old to base your hopes of a fantasy football championship on. My fantasy football premium cheat sheets (the ones I use to draft off of) are available for sale through this website. My other suggestion to fantasy rookies and veterans alike is to go into each draft with an overall player ranking cheatsheet, an updated team depth chart, and a fantasy football draft tracker matrix. The overall player ranking is your list of players by position in the order in which you would take them during the draft. Basically a list of best to worst players in the categories of quarterback, wide receiver, running back, tight end , kicker and defense. I break these players into tiers and assign about equal weight to all the names in each tier. During the draft, to help me make my selection among the names in each tier I have the previous year’s statistics and bye week listed right next to the player’s name on my cheat sheet. An example of this can be seen by clicking on my sample 2007 cheatsheet above. The team depth chart is important so any player’s backup is at the tip of you fingers when looking to handcuff someone to your stud. The team depth chart can also be a useful tool to track when all of the starters for a given position are selected. This allows fantasy owners to ensure that all of the starters for a given position have come off the board before taking a flyer on a second or third string player. The last thing that is very important is the draft tracker matrix. This can be as simple as an excel spreadsheet with the number of teams listed across the top and the number of rounds listed along the side. You should have a square for every pick in the draft and as the pick comes off the board, the position of the player selected in written in the square. By tracking the positions other fantasy owners are drafting, you can determine when address a positional need and when that need might be able to wait another round. |
